It’s been a long time since I’ve visited Montréal and going for Pop Mtl reminded me how much I love the city. I practiced my broken French- douze années d’immersion francais et j’oublie presque tous. It was funny and pathetic.
I loved seeing campaign posters charred on rue Saint Laurent and pictures of politicians drawn with devil horns. I’d like to think it was a political move on the part of Montréalers but it looked more like a we’re drunk and it’s five in the morning so let’s destroy stuff situation.
When we were loading out after playing the Jupiter, I was stopped on the street by an older man who asked me why food starts to suck when you go across “the border” from Quebec to Ontario. I had nuthin’ for him. But a friend of mine told him she thinks it’s because people put more thought into baking or something.
On the way back to Toronto, Maki took pictures of the sky (I dunno- ask her). At a rest stop just east of Kingston, we piled out to gas up etc.- along with at least ten other bands driving back to T.O. I recognized Cameron from The Disraelis but that was it. However, musicians all look the same on Sunday. Tired and wearing muted colours with dark sunglasses. And, of course, I was no exception.
